Since moving to Melbourne last year, Italian jazz saxophonist and composer Mirko Guerrini has been busy with several project bands. The latest is a trio collaboration with Italian drummer Carlo AlbertoCanevali, which premieres with new project, “Italian Song Book”. It is a Jazz journey through the beauty of different Italian regions’ folk songs.

Italy has 21 different regions, and, as for the food, the traditional music changes a lot from region to region, mirroring the roots of the popular culture. In “Italian Song Book” you will travel from Sicily and Calabria to Liguria, Piemonte, and Friuli, then South again to Campania, in a lot of different villages and towns, listening to the music of laborers, peasants, shepherds, fishermen, and artisans of rural Italy.

For this new project Guerrini and Canevali (also recently relocated in Melbourne) are joined by an Australian bassist with Italian roots, Frank DiSario. The music played by Triodegradable is fresh and passionate, and beside the acoustic sounds, the listeners will also hear some echoes of the rural Italian tradition, with some loops and samples used by the three musicians as a source of inspiration for their improvisations.
