Event Details

This is a collaborative group was formed in 2013 by four bandleaders (and composers) – Frank DiSario, Mirko Guerrini, Steve Magnusson and Niko Schauble. This project focuses on melodic songs, and as well as original material, their repertoire includes Beatles songs and movie themes. With the emphasis on melodic “flow” (rather than harmony), it was appropriate that the name of the band comes from a stream in the Appennini Mountains in Tuscany. These musicians work together in other groups, with Guerrini and Schauble having recently performed in Israel and Italy (and Japan last year) as the trio, Torrio!, with Paul Grabowsky.

Steve Magnusson co-led a new project Acquacheta, with Italian saxophonist Mirko Guerrini. The band’s music proved wildly eclectic, with the quartet covering the Beatles ‘Come Together’ and ‘Here Comes the Sun’, the soundtrack to Truffaut’s ‘400 Blows’, and Keith Jarrett’s ‘Prism’. Guerrini is a recent addition to the local scene, and, on the strength of this performance, should create waves over the coming years”. – Des Cowley, Ausjazz

Guerrini shapes his improvisations as persuasively as he constructs his compositions. His assured, fluid lines form natural contours and climaxes that pull the audience – and his fellow musicians – along for the ride”  – Concert review, The Age, 2013
